During my time as Head of Design at Africa Nature, I had the pleasure of leading the design for the 2016 Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden heritage collection—creating a cohesive, charming identity across both staff uniforms and the retail shop range.
Inspired by the garden’s iconic fynbos, celebrated proteas, and the sweeping architectural curves of the ‘Boomslang’ canopy walkway, this collection blends natural beauty with everyday functionality.
On the uniform side, I curated a versatile palette of botanical greens, earth tones, and sky blues into crisp, practical silhouettes—technical vests, durable twill pants, and tailored shirts designed to handle a active day in the field while keeping the team looking sharp.
The retail range brought that same botanical wonder into the gift shop for visitors to take home. Using light, breathable cotton voiles featuring delicate floral prints, we developed effortless dresses, tops, and sunny accessories in soft corals and sky blues. From initial CADs and mood boards to the final products, it was a dream project—proving that great technical design can be both practical and beautiful.
